“If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.” – Dalai Lama
I’m becoming more acutely aware of the damaging effects of high doses of Blame and Shame. Accepting (and allowng others to accept) appropriate responsibility for chosen behavior is a healthy requirement for maintaining good mental and relational health. When Blame and Shame are used as tools to coerce behavior poor mental and relational health follow.
Evidence of Blame/Shame might sound like: “I feel like a terrible person” “I always do this!” Or, “He/she is a terrible person.” “You/they always do this!”
